Congratulations to our 2017 president, James Collum for a wonderful weekend of golf. From Thursday with his prize to the ladies, the Shoot-out on Thursday evening and Friday’s scramble he treated all involved to a Carlsberg kind of weekend. The cuisine for all the days was first class and many thanks to all the women behind the man. President’s Day was a credit to James and all his family and the little “taster” after 9 holes was very welcome,

The ladies prize on Thursday was won by Sandra Mc Ginley with Frances Rutherford in second place. Paul Harkin was third in the shoot-out, with Francis Boyle in second place and the winner was Kenny Mc Phearson who was smiling all weekend. The scramble winners were Paul Doherty, Owenie Mc Gee, Shane Corless and the woman directing the president, Kathleen Collum. Chris Mc Callion, Kevin Boyle, Sean Murray and Patsy Mc Vicar were second.

After 18 holes on President’s Day, on a course, in pristine condition, the leader on 39 points was Francis Boyle with Micheal Murray and Joe Friel on 38 and Paul Harkin on 37. There was always going to be one winner and  Francis cruised home with 23 points. The junior prize went to Cian Mc Garvey, visitor to James Sweeney, nearest the pin to Denis Boyle, longest drive Francis Boyle, the nines to Phil Mc Geady and Owenie mc Gee. The ever youthful Paddy Ferry had the best card in his category. The best 18 went to Micheal Murray, with Joe Friel in 4th, Kein Barrett in third, Gerry Doohan in second and with 8 points to spare  Francis Boyle took president’s prize for 2017.

Congratulations to all concerned and especially to James for all his efforts. He is grateful for all the help from his family, to Gerry for organising the competitions and to Neil for his work in the clubhouse. James handled the presentation with a touch of class and he could get a nomination for the same post for many years to come. As well as Kathleen, Kenny, Denis and Paddy will be there for him.

The Last Man Standing took a surprise turn with Leicester thumping Liverpool on Monday night and as a result  PCC under 14s  went on top with 24 points and  win the €300 first prize.  John Gallagher and Gary Dowd shared second spot and get 50 euros each.
