CUMANN GAILF CHLOICH CHEANN FHAOLA

Cloughaneely Golf Club

Cloughaneely Golf Club began in Falcarragh in 1996. The founding members were local people from the parish who came together to build a beautiful 9 Hole Golf Course with wonderful views of Muckish Mountain, Falcarragh Back Strand and Horn Head with majestic Errigal in the distance.  The Golf Course was officially opened on 31 May 1997 by the President of the Golfing Union of Ireland, Peter O Hara, and will soon be celebrating the club’s silver anniversary in 2022!

Ba i 1996 a cuireadh tús le Cumann Gailf Chloich Cheannfhaola ar an Fhál Carrach. Tháinig baicle de mhuintir na háite le chéile le cúrsa álainn gailf 9 bpoll a thógáil faoi scáth na Mucaise, idir Corrán Binne agus an Eargail mhaorga, in aice le Tráigh Dhroim na Tineadh. Rinneadh an cúrsa a oscailt go hoifigiúil ar an  31 Bealtaine 1997.... ní bheidh sé i bhfad go mbeidh an cúrsa ag ceiliúradh a n-iubhaile airgid i 2022!

The golf course is situated in the rolling meadows of the Ballyconnell Estate, where the Olphert family, landlords, lived for many centuries. In later years it was known as the grounds of Coláiste Bhríde, a preparatory college for girls (1928-1961), and Holy Cross College, a boarding school for boys (1965-1986). Udáras na Gaeltachta purchased the estate from the Diocese of Raphoe in 1988 and the land where the golf course is situated has been leased by the golf club. The popular ‘Falcarragh Park Run’ route now borders the golf course and attracts a lot of walkers and runners throughout the year.

Tá an cúrsa suite faoi scáth na gcrann in Eastát Bhaile Chonaill a bhí i seilbh na nOlfartach, tiarnaí talún, ar feadh na gcéadta bliain. Ba ar an eastát seo a bhí Coláiste Bhríde, coláiste ullmhúcháin, ó 1928 go 1961, agus Coláiste na Croise Naofa, meánscoil aíochta do bhuachaillí, ó 1965 go 1986. Cheannaigh Údarás na Gaeltachta an t-eastát ó Dheoise Ráth Bhoth i 1988 agus tá an talamh ar a bhfuil an cúrsa ar léas ag an chumann ón Údaras. Tá clú agus cáil ar an tsiúlóid fríd na gcrann in aice leis an chúrsa.

The beautiful 9 Hole Parkland Golf Course was designed by Michael Doherty, former professional in the City of Derry Golf Club. The challenging par 70 course is a test for any golfer’s handicap and at the same time offers plenty of scope for the beginner. New Members are always welcome.

Ba Michael Doherty ó Dhoire a dhear an cúrsa seo a raibh sé chomh bródúil sin as. Is cúrsa é a thugann dúshlán don ghalfaire  is fearr agus atá san am céanna foirsteanach don tosaitheoir . Tá fáilte i gcónaí roimh bhaill úra sa chlub.
